MATH:

**IXL.org is a great resource to use at home to help your child review math concepts at home.**
READING:
In reading this year we have started learning words from the First Grade Sight Words List (Fry's 1st 100 Sight Words). We will also begin to develop stamina for independent reading and examine various story elements such as the beginning, middle, end, characters/setting, and main idea- just to name a few.
We have started to develop daily reading routines in our Reading Stations. These stations include routines that focus on various literacy skills- independent reading practice, partner reading practice, writing, phonics and grammar patterns, and listening to reading. In addition to these stations students will work with me in small instructional groups in Guided Reading. In this small group students will work with directly with me focusing closely on their specific reading level and reading needs.
PHONICS:
Sam Wants a Pet
This week in our Phonics Skills Block, your child will be focusing on CVC words. We will work with words that have a short vowel sound in the middle.
For Example: pet-p-e-t- consonant, vowel, consonant, pattern which makes it a CVC word.
SIGHT WORDS:
REVIEW WORDS THUS FAR
**Please study the flashcard words that were sent home each night**
PHONICSS/SPELLING WORDS:
Students will be given a list of Spelling words each Monday on Seesaw. They will be tested on the list of words on the Friday of that same week. These spelling words will follow a phonics pattern that is at their writing and reading level. Please study not only the spelling of the word, but also the phonics pattern it follows, with your child so they can fully understand how to read and write each word.
**Please study these words at home each night and think of new words that follow the pattern**
WRITING:
We are continuing to practice writing complete sentences with punctuation, finger spaces, and an upper case letter. We will start to write sentences that are connected to then be able to create a story.
